Wills and Estates

No one likes to plan for death and disability. We provide compassionate and professional services from estate planning to administration.

There are plenty of tools like AI that say they can create these for free or minimal fee, but these are complex legal documents that have serious financial and lifestyle consequences if not done professionally.  May online tools fail to account for Manitoba specific laws, and if you don’t ask AI the right questions, you aren’t going to get the right answers.

Save your loved ones from substantial legal costs of going to court for an Committeeship Order when your Power of Attorney can’t be used by your bank or the land titles office, or Estate Litigation if your will is invalid or open to challenge.  We spend the time with our clients to understand their specific situation and tailor your estate plan to you.

We do not charge a file retrieval fee when you need to see something on file. In fact, we encourage clients to regularly review their wills and powers of attorney (recommend every 5 years or in the event of significant life events) so that they are always kept current.

Estate Administration

In Manitoba, estate fees must be fully disclosed, fair and reasonable, and are billed according to the Tarriff Rate set by the Province under King’s Bench Rule 74.14(6) and (7) for basic estate services to cover work of average complexity, based on the value of the estate and calculated as follows:

Fees

  1. 3% on the first $100,000, of the total value of the estate, with a minimum fee of $1,500
  2. 1.25% on the next $400,000
  3. 1% on the next $500,000
  4. 0.5% on the total value over $1,000,000
